How to Make a Career Shift into Tech
There came a point in my life where I was given the opportunity to hit “reset” on my career. I had moved to Canada and the area I was moving to was in a growing tech community. I had lived in Austin just long enough to get a taste of the perks that tech roles offered and knew I wanted in. My previous job was for Enterprise, and while I could never work there again, it gave me a very solid corporate training that I credit for a lot of my skills today. I was lucky enough to find a job at a start-up in a non-technical role. I sadly was laid off within a year, but what can I say, I am a simple girl, and promises of ping pong tables, beer and kombucha on tap and other bribery tools worked like a charm, I was smitten. It took me a few more jobs to get back into a proper tech company and when I was in other industries it was a stark reminder of how much more plush tech can be. I know that breaking into tech can be difficult and intimidating, so I have put together a few tips on how you can present yourself as the stand-out assistant you are.
