Navigating the Expense and Scheduling Labyrinth: The Admin's Quest for Efficiency
Sunday, November 5, 2023 - 12:33 pm
In the world of administrative professionals, the twin specters of expense management and scheduling loom large. They're the tasks we wrestle with daily, the ones that can turn a high-flying executive assistant into Sisyphus, forever rolling a boulder uphill. But what if there were a better way?
The Struggle is Real
A recent survey I conducted for a new presentation was eye-opening: a whopping 80% of responses centered on the headaches of expenses and scheduling. It's clear that admins are desperate for a more automated process. And it's not just about convenience—it's about being effective in our roles.
A Glimpse of Hope with AI
My work with EA Buddy since February has been illuminating. They've been fine-tuning an AI solution that addresses the scheduling chaos, and it's been the number one priority. At the recent APC conference, new AI features were unveiled, and I'm buzzing with excitement to demonstrate them once they're live.
The Expense Conundrum
However, when it comes to expenses, the path is less clear. In my last role as an Executive Assistant, my expense management was limited to company trips or the odd purchase. The CEO I supported had an accountant for the heavy lifting. I don't recommend anyone replicate my expense management process for Tech Savvy Assistant.
Your Experience Matters
This is where I turn to you, the community. I'm eager to learn about your expense management processes. What tools do you use? If you're stuck doing things manually, what does that look like? Have you sought out better solutions, and do you feel empowered to ask for them?
The Power of Persistence
Remember, being a strategic business partner often means tackling inefficient, outdated procedures. It's frustrating to work ineffectively because someone else won't invest in a better way. But change starts with us. As I often discuss with Candice, founder of amazing admin companies and my co-host on The Future Focused Admin, it's crucial for companies to create admin departments with real leads.
The Interim Solution
So, what do you do in the meantime? You become the squeaky wheel. Research your pain points, find potential programs, and prepare a solid business case. Then, bring it forward and ask to take on the project.
